10 Using HP 3PAR CLX with HP 3PAR Recovery Manager

Single Copy Cluster (SCC) is a shared storage failover cluster solution consisting of two or more
nodes. There is one copy of the Exchange databases with this solution. However, because this
solution is based on a shared storage, third-party array-based replication solution like HP 3PAR
Remote Copy synchronous & asynchronous replication can be used to have more than one copy
of the Exchange databases.

SCC along with HP 3PAR Cluster Extension (CLX) provides a replicated, disaster-tolerant solution
that fully integrates the Exchange server and storage layers. This solution consists of Microsoft
Exchange server cluster technology, which provides local site application availability, paired with
HP 3PAR Remote Copy and HP 3PAR Cluster Extension (CLX) for inter-site replication, management
of site failover and fail back, and geographical dispersion with automatic disaster tolerance.

HP 3PAR Recovery Manager supports SCC with HP 3PAR CLX configuration. HP 3PAR Recovery
Manager supports SCC & CLX configuration in conjunction with Remote copy feature of HP 3PAR
Recovery Manager.

Figure 36 (page 129)

describes an example of two site configurations.

Figure 36 Two Site Configuration

This figure is only an example, follow clustering best practices for implementation.

HP 3PAR Recovery Manager supports only two-site configuration. Within each site, any number
of nodes are supported.

A backup server is required for each site corresponding to each array.

Site in this diagram refers to a group of nodes connected to an array. In the above figure, there
are 2 sites, site A and Site B. Two nodes are connected to the array on site A, and the other two
nodes are connected to another array on site B.
