20 Backing Out a Revision

If problems arise with the current revision of software on a target system, you can submit a request
from NonStop Software Essentials to return to the previous revision applied to that logical target.
This makes the current revision inaccessible, reapplies the previous revision, and displays the
instructions for activating the previous revision.

The backout only restores the software to the previous revision. Depending on the actions performed
by the operator to activate that software, additional steps might be needed to fall back to the
previous revision. For additional backout procedures for specific products, see the Software
Installation and Upgrade Guide
for your RVU.

Topics discussed in this section include:

“Backing Out if DSM/SCM is Running” (page 209)

“Backing Out in Special Circumstances” (page 212)

“Fallback Considerations” (page 215)

NOTE:

You can back out only to the previous revision of software. The software revision you

backed out is not deleted from the Configuration Revisions window. To reinstall an earlier revision,
use NonStop Software Essentials to rebuild the revision from the revision history, then reapply it.
For the procedure for creating a new software revision from an earlier revision, see

Chapter 7:

“Creating and Managing Software Revisions”

.
