ISV backup software
ISV Backup Software does not tend to use the Microsoft Tape Device drivers, but
instead use their own tape drivers. Hewlett-Packard has an ongoing Compatibility
testing program to ensure that HP Surestore Tape Drives work with a wide range
of HP and 3rd party servers, Operating Systems, SCSI HBAs, and ISV Backup
Software.
For a full list of compatible devices and software, consult
IHV backup software
also document their support on their own web sites.
Hardware support is typically via one of a number of methods:
●
IHV's will release technical specifications to the developer community to
enable them to write drivers.
●
IHV's will code drivers and then release these drivers to the Linux
community.
●
IHV will approve certain standard drivers in the case of non-specific
hardware (for example, SCSI tape)
Hewlett-Packard have found that the standard tape driver ("st") is compatible with
the HP Surestore DAT and DLT range.
