1 Business Copy overview

Business Copy, also known as Business Copy (BC), uses local mirroring technology to create and
maintain a full copy of a data volume within an HP XP7 Storage (XP7) system.

You can use BC copies as backups, with secondary host applications, for data mining, for testing,
as well as for other uses, while business operations continue without stopping host application
input/output (I/O) to the production volume.

Hardware and software components

A typical configuration consists of an XP7 Storage system, a host connected to the XP7 storage
system, the BC software, a primary or source volume (P-VOL), one or more secondary or target
volumes (S-VOLs), and interface tools for operating BC.

The following image shows a typical configuration.

You use interface tools to operate BC.

Install the BC license key, which enables it.
