LU (logical unit). An LDEV used by open-system hosts is called an LU. The arrays support a

maximum of 1024 LU paths per fibre-channel port. An open-system LU on a fibre-channel interface

can be mapped to one or more LDEVs.

LDEV (logical device). The mainframe systems support a maximum of 65,280 LDEVs. An LDEV

used by mainframe hosts can be called a device, a logical volume image (LVI), or a volume.
For open system volumes, the XP12000/XP10000 disk arrays support a maximum of only 16,384

LDEVs. An LDEV used by open-system hosts can be called a device (for example, SCSI disk device

or raw device) or a logical unit (LU or LUN).

IMPORTANT:

This guide contains information about internal disks or LDEVs in an array. Unlike the

XP12000/XP10000 Disk Arrays, the SVS 200 does not have internal disks. Therefore, information

about internal disks or LDEVs in an array does not apply to the SVS 200.

Java™ applet program. The XP Remote Web Console is provided as a Java™ applet program.

When an XP Remote Web Console user accesses and logs on to the desired SVP, the Java™

applet is downloaded from the SVP (web server) to the XP Remote Web Console client. The

Java™ applet program runs on a web browser on the XP Remote Web Console client.

RMI™ (remote method invocation). RMI™ is a remote procedure call that allows Java™ objects

stored in the network to be run remotely. In the XP Remote Web Console network environment, the

XP Remote Web Console downloads Java™ objects from the SVP.

CU (control unit). The arrays support a maximum of 255 logical CU images for mainframe

systems and 64 logical CU images for open systems. These images are numbered sequentially

from 0-FE. Each CU image controls up to 256 LDEVs. LDEVs within the arrays are accessed by

a combination of CU image number and device number (00-FF).

Table 2

shows an example

of the device numbers for each CU image.
