XP Remote Web Console provides a default account with the user ID and password of “administrator.” By

default, the operation authority for all XP Remote Web Console features and product options is given

to this user account. Also, the user account with the user ID of “administrator” cannot be deleted. You

can register up to 500 user accounts including the user account with the user ID of “administrator”

for XP Remote Web Console.
When you create a user account, you need to specify the user ID, user type, and password.

An operation authority can also be specified for each registered user account. To register a

user account or to set an operation authority, use the Account pane. For further information on

registering the user account and setting the operation authority for XP Remote Web Console, see

Setting User Accounts (Account Pane)

” on page 86. The following sections describe the user type

and operation authority.

User Types

There are two types of XP Remote Web Console users:

Storage administrator

Storage partition administrator

You can determine the user type when you register the user account. The storage administrator and the

storage partition administrator roles are described below.

Storage administrator: A storage administrator operates the entire array. Only storage administrators

can perform Control Panel and audit log-related operations in the XP Remote Web Console. The

user account that is set by default in XP Remote Web Console with the user ID of “administrator” is

a member of the Storage administrator group.

Storage partition administrator: A storage partition administrator can operate an SLPR (Storage

Management Logical Partition) allocated in XP Remote Web Console. A storage partition administrator

cannot perform Control Panel and audit log-related operations in XP Remote Web Console. For

additional information on an SLPR, see the HP StorageWorks XP Disk/Cache Partition user guide.

NOTE:

A storage partition administrator can use only a portion of the licensed product options. For details on

the product options that a storage partition administrator can use, see

Allocating Licensed Capacity

among Storage Logical Partitions

.

Operation Authority

If you set the user ID and password when you register a user account, you can specify various types of

operation authorities for registered user accounts. In XP Remote Web Console, the operation authority

is also referred to as “role.” The parameters for the operation authorities that can be set for each user

account are as follows.

Account Administrator Role (user account operation authority): The account administrator role

provides the authority to operate the Account pane that can used to manage XP Remote Web Console

user accounts. All users can change their own passwords and view the details of their own accounts.

Only users in the account administrator role can change the password or settings of another user's

account. You cannot change the account administrator role settings for the default account that has

the user ID of “administrator.”
For each user account, you can specify the authority of the account administrator role from one of the

following three types:
• Modify: If you have this authority, you can add and delete all user accounts (except for the user ID

“administrator”) and change their settings. For the user account of user ID “administrator”, you

can change the password and the operation authority; however, you cannot change the account

administrator's role. The operation authority Modify has been set for the user account with the

user ID of "administrator.”
