4.

Click the properties tabs.

Extending host volume capacity

Increase the size of a host volume.

Considerations

You can only use the GUI to extend a host volume.

You can extend the file system or the underlying array virtual disk.

You can extend a host volume until its size reaches that of the underlying virtual disk. At that
point, it is necessary to extend the size of the virtual disk to provide additional capacity to
extend the file system.

You execute custom commands or scripts when extending the host volume.

Make sure the DC-Management license installed supports the desired extend capacity.

When you enter a New Size for a virtual disk, the File System New Size automatically updates
to the same value.

Entering a File System New Size has no effect on the virtual disk New Size.

If you increase the File System New Size, the VDisk New Size will not change.

You can use the Capacity Utilized value to determine the percent of capacity currently being
used.

Use care when manually extending a host volume on which you have set a dynamic policy.
See

for more information.

Procedure

1.

In the navigation pane, select Host Volumes.

2.

On the Host Volumes tab, select the host volume that you want to extend.

3.

Select Actions > Extend capacity.

The Host Volume Extend window opens.

4.

Follow the instructions in the window.

Shrinking host volume capacity

Decrease the size of a host volume.

Considerations

You can only use the GUI to shrink a host volume.

You can shrink the file system or the underlying array virtual disk.

The minimum size to which you can shrink a host volume is determined by the amount of data
on the host volume. You cannot make a host volume too small to accommodate the data on
it.

The minimum virtual disk size depends on the file system size.

You execute custom commands or scripts when shrinking the host volume.

When you enter a File System New Size, the virtual disk New Size automatically updates to
the same value.

Entering a New Size for a virtual disk has no effect on the File System New Size.
