Unit ID: the number of the storage chassis

Number of LDEV: the number of the LDEVs (each instance)

Number of entry: the number of the paired entries

Example:If 1:3 pair configuration, the primary instance becomes the number of the LDEVs =1
and the number of the entries (the number of the pairs) = 3. And the secondary instance
becomes the number of the LDEVs =3 and the number of the entries (the number of the pairs)
= 3.

Failover. RAID Manager supports several failover products, including FirstWatch,
MC/ServiceGuard, HACMP, and TruCluster. For details see

High availability (HA) configurations. The system that runs and operates Continuous Access
Synchronous in an HA configuration must be a duplex system having a hot standby
configuration or mutual hot standby (mutual takeover) configuration. The remote copy system
must be designed for remote backup among servers and configured so that servers cannot
share the primary and secondary volumes at the same time. The information in this document
does not apply to fault-tolerant system configurations such as Oracle Parallel Server (OPS) in
which nodes execute parallel accesses. However, two or more nodes can share the primary
volumes of the shared OPS database, and must use the secondary volumes as the exclusive
backup volumes.

Host servers that are combined when paired logical volumes are defined should run on
operating systems of the same architecture. If not, one host may not be able to recognize
a paired volume of another host, even though RAID Manager can run properly.

RAID storage systems

Command device. The RAID Manager command device must be defined and accessed
as a raw device (no file system, no mount operation).

License keys. The option for each program product to be used (for example, Continuous
Access Journal, Smart Tiers) must be installed and enabled on the RAID storage system.

System option modes. Before you begin operations the system option modes (SOMs) must
be set on the service processor (SVP) by your HP representative. For details, see the User
and Reference Guide for your storage system.

Continuous Access Synchronous: Bi-directional swap must be enabled between the primary
and secondary volumes. The port modes (e.g. RCU target, etc.) and MCU-RCU paths
must be defined.

Continuous Access Journal: The path between the CUs must be set using Remote Web
Console, and bi-directional swap must be enabled between the primary and secondary
volumes.

Fast Snap: Both Thin Provisioning and Fast Snap must be installed and enabled on the
RAID storage system.

Snapshot: Both Business Copy and Snapshot must be installed and enabled on the RAID
storage system.
