Formatting
memory (FORMAT)

You can use your Network Walkman to format the
built-in flash memory or “Memory Stick Duo”
(not supplied).
If memory is formatted, all data previously stored
in the memory will be erased. Be sure to verify the
data stored in the memory prior to formatting. (If a
“Memory Stick” is formatted, data recorded using
other devices will be also erased.) A commercially
available “Memory Stick” is already formatted at
the factory. You do not need to format it prior to
using.

Note

You cannot use a “Memory Stick” that has been
formatted using any device other than your Network
Walkman or supplied SonicStage software.
For details, refer to information on page 9.

Press the MENU button.

The menu screen is displayed.

Rotate the Shuttle switch to select
“FORMAT” and press the Play/Stop
button to confirm.

music.

When “Memory Stick” is inserted into the
slot

Rotate the Shuttle switch to select “IN”

(Built-in flash memory) or “MS”
(“Memory Stick”).

Press the Play/Stop button to confirm.

Rotate the Shuttle switch to select “Y”
and press the Play/Stop button to
confirm.

“Really?” is displayed.

Press the Play/Stop button.

“FORMATTING” blinks and formatting
starts.

When formatting is complete,
“COMPLETE” is displayed and the display
returns to the indication in step 2.

Press the MENU button.

The display returns to the normal screen.

To cancel the menu mode

Select [RETURN] in the menu screen or press the MENU
button.

To cancel formatting

Select “N” in step 3.

Notes

• You cannot format memory while playing music.

(“FORMAT” will not be displayed in the menu screen.)

• You cannot format memory when the erasure

prevention switch of “Memory Stick” is set to
“LOCK.” (“MS LOCKED” will be displayed.)

• Do not remove “Memory Stick Duo” while

“FORMATTING” is displayed.

Tip

If audio files are erased by formatting, the
SonicStage software recognizes them as audio
files to be transferred back to the computer when
your Network Walkman is connected to the
computer that you used for transferring. Therefore,
the remaining transfer count increases
automatically.
