Computer cannot
communicate with the camera.

Camera power is off.

Turn on the camera.

The Mode dial is not
set to Connect.

Set the Mode dial to
Connect.

Conflict with another
serial device, such as
a modem.

Refer to the serial
communication or
corresponding section
of your modem, and/or
operating system user’s
guide.

Some Advanced
Power Management
utilities on laptops can
turn off ports to save
battery life.

See the Power
Management section of
your laptop user’s
guide to disable this
feature.

Camera is not
connected to serial
cable or cable is not
connected to the
computer COM port.

Connect serial cable to
camera and COM port.
Refer to “Using a serial
cable to connect” on
page 5-7.

Infrared port is not
responding.

Check the computer
infrared connection. Be
sure that the camera is
on.

The BIOS has a
different port assigned
as the infrared port.

Change the port setting
in Camera Properties to
reflect the port value
assigned in the BIOS.
