Liebherr-Transportation Systems
GmbH & Co KG, in collaboration with
Bombardier Transportation UK Ltd.
(Derby) has designed and built the
Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning
(HVAC) system of the South-African
Gautrain electrical multiple units. Gau-
train is a rapid rail network in Gauteng,
linking Johannesburg via Sandton with
Pretoria as well as OR Tambo Interna-
tional Airport.

automatically between various cool-
ing, heating and ventilation modes of
operation to ensure that comfortable
temperatures are achieved in the trains
whatever the weather outside.
Service and warranty support is
provided by local staff from Liebherr-
Africa (Pty.) Ltd. based in Springs. The
Liebherr local engineers work closely
together with Bombardier Transporta-
tion staff at the Marlboro train mainte-
nance depot to ensure the trains run
smoothly.
