GMP POLE TRAILER LIGHT KIT

Chain Binder Type

► Do not use this unit to bind poles or to secure a load. The chain

binder is only designed to secure the Pole Trailer Light Kit to a single

pole. To secure the load, use a separate pole binder that is designed

for that purpose.

► If multiple poles are to be transported, attach the Pole Trailer Light

unit only to one pole at the most rearward position.

► Do not extend the chain binder handle with a leverage bar to lock the

chain binder into place. Over-compressing the spring can cause dam-

age to the frame and chain binder. If the chain binder handle cannot be

closed by hand then the chain is too tight (see step 3 below).

► Always use a lag bolt to firmly secure the one-foot section of safety

chain to the top of the pole (see step 5 below).

► When the binder is locked in position, the spring should be com-

pressed with the chain secured tightly around the pole.

► Be careful not to pinch your hands or fingers when securing the

binder onto the pole.

► Keep the excess cordage wrapped neatly around the storage bars

and secure for transport.

Important Safety Precautions -

Operating Instructions
1. Place the unit on top of the protruding pole to be transported fac-

ing rearward. Then slide the unit in until the back of the frame
contacts the butt of the pole. The pole butt should have at least
15 in. (38 cm) of clearance away from another object.

2. With the chain binder handle in the upright (un-tensioned) posi-

tion, place the chain around the pole and secure the link that is
closest to the hook.

(fig.1)

3. Do not force the binder closed as damage may occur. Once the

link is secured onto the hook, press down on the handle until the
binder locks down into place against the pole. If the unit is unable
to lock down because the chain is too tight, loosen the chain
where it connects to the hook by one link only. Then press the
handle down into the locking position.

(fig.2)

4. Check to see that the unit is snug and secure on, the pole and

that the spring is under compression. Wrap any excess length of
chain around the pole and away from the binder. Then secure the
S hook onto the closest link available.

5. Place a 1 1/2 long x 1/4 in. (40 mm x 7 mm) diameter lag bolt with

washer through the 12 in. (30 cm) length of safety chain to the top
of the pole directly behind the unit.

(fig. 3)

6. Unwrap a sufficient length of cord and plug it securely into the

outlet on the vehicle. Take up any slack cord by re-wrapping it
back onto the cable storage arms.

7. Place the flags into the holders at each end and secure them with

the attached locking pin.
