Redundant Inputs and Outputs

Hardware Overview

Redundant Inputs and Outputs

Redundant +24V HSM Low/Hi command input paths from the input connection
along with logic resolves inconsistencies in the redundant paths. If an
inconsistency is detected, the ISM and HSM solenoid outputs will be sequenced
off and the ISM controller will go the fault state for that channel.

Redundant switch contact input paths from the ISM switch inputs and the two
pilot pressure switch inputs, along with logic resolves inconsistencies in the
redundant paths. If an inconsistency is detected, the ISM and HSM solenoid
outputs will be sequenced off and the ISM controller will go the fault state for
that channel.

Monitoring of physical solenoid control outputs against their commanded state
resolves inconsistencies. If an inconsistency is detected, the ISM and HSM
solenoid outputs will be switched off via a redundant path and the ISM controller
will go the fault state for that channel.

The logic resolving input and output state inconsistencies are watched via an
external watchdog function that makes sure that the logic is functioning. If the
external watchdog determines that this logic is not functioning, ISM and HSM
solenoid outputs will be turned off via a redundant method.

Support Multi-station Applications

Multi station support will be managed by the MTS controller via HSM/Interlock
channel to station mapping as is done today. All control/interlocks between the
MTS controller and the ISM controller happen via an MTS controller HSM and
Interlock interfaces. Because of this, the ISM controller will have no need to
know anything about what station it belongs to as there will always be a 1-1-1-1
relationship between an MTS controller HSM/interlock channel, an ISM control
channel, an HSM and an ISM.

Support System Upgrades of Targeted Controller Types

As the MTS controller/ISM controller fundamental interface is very simplistic
and limited to HSM command outputs from a MTS controller and an interlock
output to the MTS controller, the ISM controller can interface to any MTS
controller that has a +24VDC HSM Low and Hi output and an interlock input.
