Handling, Inspection, and Storage of Medium Voltage Line Filter Capacitors
Step 1:
Receive the LFCs
Receive the crate into the work site.
Verify the correct parts have been received: You need to match the capacitors
contained in the shipping crate with the VFD into which they will be installed.
Step 2:
Inspect the LFCs
Remove the top cover from the shipping crate, remove the capacitors (see
Figures 1 through 3), and inspect the capacitors for damage – i.e. cracks or chips
in the porcelain bushings, impact or cracks in the LFC case, or leakage of oil.

WARNING: Do not handle the LFC by the bushings. The bushings are fragile.
Handle the LFC using the side mounted lifting/mounting brackets as shown in
Figure 1. Due to the weight of the LFC (approximately 150 lbs. / 70 kgs.), use
proper and safe lifting techniques, preferably with a lifting device or manually
with more than one person.
