To install a replacement microprocessor and heat sink assembly, perform the following steps:

1. Insert the new microprocessor into the system board connector.


Press the processor firmly into its connector until it is fully seated. You must use up to 25 lb of force to fully seat the processor in its connector.

2. Replace the airflow shroud.


Squeeze in on the two pairs of tabs on the shroud, align it with the slots in the microprocessor fan, and lower it into place.

3. After you

replace the computer cover

and

restart the system

, run the Dell Diagnostics to verify that the new microprocessor is operating

correctly.

To remove the microprocessor cooling fan, perform the following steps.

1.

Rotate the system power supply

.

2. Disconnect the fan power cable from the microprocessor fan connector (see

Figure 27

).

3. Gently pull the plastic locking tab, and slide the fan towards the power supply to disengage the four latching tabs holding the fan to the back

of the chassis.

4. Pull the fan forward and away from the back panel to remove it.
