TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

PROBLEM

CAUSE

CORRECTION

Will not start

Hard to start

• Out of fuel.

• Engine not “CHOKED" properly.

• Engine flooded.

• Bad spark plug.
• Dirty air filter
• Dirty fuel filter.
• Water in fuel.

• Loose or damaged wiring.

• Carburetor out of adjustment.

• Engine valves out of adjust­

ment.

• Fill fuel tank.
• S e e ' T O START ENGINE” in

Operation section.

• Wait several minutes before at­

tempting to start.

• Replace spark plug.
• Clean/replace air filter.
• Replace fuel filter.
• Drain fuel tank and carburetor,

refill tank with fresh
gasoline and replace fuel filter.

• Check all wiring.
• See To Adjust Carburetor” in

Service and Adjustments
section.

• Contact an authorized service

center.

Engine will not turn
over

• Dirty air filter.

• Bad spark plug.
• Weak or dead battery.
• Dirty fuel filter.
• Stale or dirty fuel.

• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Carburetor out of adjustment.

• Engine valves out of adjust­

ment.

• Clean/replace air filter.
• Replace spark plug.
• Recharge or replace battery.
• Replace fuel filter.
• Drain fuel tank and refill with

fresh gasoline.

• Check all wiring.

• Clutch/brake pedal not de­
