Fabric Mezzanine

This section describes the board specific items of the fabric mezzanine module.

The mezzanine is a PICMG 3.1 compliant module for the AT8902M AdvancedTCA Hub Board
from Kontron. It provides a fabric interface switch with 24 GbE ports and zero, two or four
10GbE uplinks.

The mezzanine module is supplied by the 3V3 management power and the 12V payload po-
wer. The module is controlled by the IPM controller via an I2C interface. The interface is con-
nected to the JTAG chain for boundary scan test ability.

The board is compatible to the following standards:

• PICMG 3.0

AdvancedTCA Base Specification, Revision 2.0

• PICMG 3.1

Ethernet/Fibre Channel for AdvancedTCA Systems, Revision 1.0

• IPMI v1.5.

Intelligent Platform Management Interface Specification

The main building blocks of the fabric mezzanine are:

• Fabric Switch

• IPMI

• Power Supply

3.2.1

Fabric Switch

The fabric switch is a Broadcom BCM5650x or BCM 5630x 24 port GbE multilayer switch. that
can operate in 10/100/1000 Mbps with zero to four 10GbE Uplinks. The BCM5630x integrates
advanced Layer 3 switching features for IPv4 and IPv6 routing. The BCM5650x also includes
enhanced QoS support and jumbo packet line rate switching.

The PPC controls the switch over a 32bit/66MHz PCI Interface.

Fabric Interface (Zone 2)

The Fabric Interface is comprised of 15 channels providing connectivity among up to 16 boards
in a Full Mesh or Star configuration. The Fabric Interface can be used in a variety of ways by
Boards and Backplanes to meet the needs of many applications defined by the PICMG 3.0 Re-
vision 2.0 standard. The pin assignment for the Zone 2 connectors is compliant to the PICMG
3.0 standard.
