This document explains how to install your system’s optional SCSI daughter card to enable

split operation of the SCSI backplane.

/K CAUTION: The power supplies in this system may produce high voltages and

energy hazards, which can cause bodily harm. Only trained service technicians
are authorized to open the system and access any of the components inside the

system. Read and follow all safety precautions in your

System Information

document.

/K CAUTION: The system may have more than one power supply cable. To reduce

the risk of electrical shock, turn off the system and disconnect all power supply

cables before servicing the system.

To avoid data loss, back up all data on the hard drives before installing the

SCSI daughter card and changing the drive configuration.

Before You Begin

NOTICE:

Befo re installing the SCSI daughter card, you must update the BIOS to the

latest version.

Before shutting down the system prior to installing the SCSI daughter card, you must
perform these preliminary steps:

1 Record the system configuration settings.

View the system configuration screens in the System Setup program and make a record

of these settings. See the system User's Guide for instructions on using the System

Setup program.

2 Update the BIOS.

Update the system with the latest version of the BIOS, available at the Dell | Support

website at support.dell.com.

Installing the Card

1 Unpack the SCSI backplane daughter card kit.

2 Remove the bezel.

See "Removing the Bezel" in the Installation and Troubleshooting Guide.

3 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system

from the electrical outlet.
