Chapter 2
Set-up and Installation

This section describes how to set up and install the CLIMs.

Before setting up the CLIM, make sure installed chassis (see the manual for the UCS chassis) is
available. If the system includes an optional DMM and CIM(s), make sure these are available:

Serial cable (required to connect the chassis to a VT100 type terminal or PC)

VT100 type terminal or PC to run the User Interface manager

The manual for the chassis and optionally, the DMM, and the CIM

2.1

Unpack and Inspect

Unpack and inspect all components. Save the shipping carton and packing materials in case you need
to return the equipment to the manufacturer. Appendix A provides information for Return Material
Authorization (RMA).

2.2

Set Up the CLIM

Before inserting the CLIM:

Check the front panel to verify that the CLIM provides the wavelength that matches its link

partner.

For installation in a UCS 1001 or a Model 1030, or if you plan to use the Hardware Option

Control (see Section 4.6), set SW1; see Figure 3 and Table 1. For more information about the
SW1 functions, see Chapter 3, Alarm Status and Function.

Note: If the CLIM was installed in a UCS 100 or 1002 and set in the User Interface to software

control, follow these steps to set it to hardware control when installing it in a UCS 1001 or
Model 1030:

a. Set SW1, all positions, to On.

b. Insert the CLIM in a slot with the power on, then remove it.

c. Set SW1, all positions, to Off.

d. Insert the CLIM in a slot with the power on, then remove it.

e. Set SW1 positions as needed.
