Engine Preparation
NOTE

Log Splitter Preparation
1. With engine oil, lubricate the face and back
side of the beam area where the splitting
wedge will slide. See Figure 6-43.
NOTE
DO NOT use grease.
2. Remove the reservoir vent plug using a 5/8"
wrench. See Figure 6-44.
3. Fill the reservoir tank using Dexron III auto-
matic transmission fluid, or a 10W non-foaming
hydraulic fluid, until the fluid level is between 3"
and 3 1/2" from the top of the inlet vent tube.
4. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark
plug and make certain it is grounded to the
engine block.
5. Prime the pump by pulling the recoil starter
approximately 10 times.
6. Reconnect the spark plug wire to the spark
plug.
7. Make certain the engine oil and log splitter flu-
ids are at the correct levels.
8. Start the engine.
9. Pull the control handle to the forward position
until the wedge assembly reaches the full for-
ward position. See Figure 6-45.
