NOTE

Tap the rod cap in uniformly around the perim-
eter.

7. Remove the large retaining ring from the cylin-

der by raising it up and pulling outward using a
medium flat-blade screw driver.

8. Remove all the paint from the inlet portion of

the cylinder using a soft emery cloth. See Fig-
ure 6-145.

9. Lubricate the inlet portion of the hydraulic cyl-

inder with the log splitters hydraulic fluid.

10. Secure the hydraulic cylinder housing to a

fixed object.

11. Remove the piston and rod end cap from the

hydraulic cylinder housing by placing a steel
rod through the piston rod end and pulling
away from the hydraulic cylinder housing. See
Figures 6-146 and 6-147.

NOTE

Make certain the hydraulic cylinder housing is
secured and can not fall down after the piston
is removed, or damage may occur.

12. Remove and replace both outer end cap seals.
