5.3 Comminution of material to be crushed

5.3.1 Setting the gap width

The opening width of the gap between the crushing plates determines

the average particle size of the crushed material. You can use the crank

(4) to adjust the gap in stages between approx. 0.3 mm and 15 mm.
To change the gap, pull out the knurled knob on the crank (4) and move

the crank (4) to the desired position. Allow the knob to engage again cor-

rectly - this locks the fixed crushing plate in place.
You should pre-crush material that is difficult to crush (e.g. metallic

alloys) in a first cycle with a wider gap.
In the second cycle, set the gap width for the desired fineness.
If you do not have any experience in the crushing capability of your

material, you should carefully crush a sample in the first cycle.
