Before performing any of the corrections in this Troubleshooting Chart, refer to the appropriate information con­

tained in this Manual for the correct safety precautions and operating or maintenance procedures. Contact your

local authorized Engine Service Dealer for engine service. Contact your local authorized TROY-BILT dealer or

the factory Technical Service Department for service problems with the machine.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM

POSSIBLE CAUSE

CORRECTION

Engine does not start.

1. Spark plug wire disconnected.

1. Reconnect wire.

2. Engine Throttle Control Lever incorrectly set.

2. Put lever in START position.

3. Fuel tank empty.

3. Add fuel.

4. Choke control in incorrect position.

4. Move choke to proper position (see “Engine

Controls,’’ Section 3).

5. Stale gasoline.

5. Drain fuel and add fresh fuel.

6. Dirty air filter(s).

6. Clean or replace filter(s).

7. Defective or incorrectly gapped spark plug.

7. Inspect spark plug.

8. Carburetor out of adjustment.

9. Misadjusted Throttle Control cable.

Keyswitch does not

Wheels and Tines

correct swivel plate hole.

6. Bolt and key loose in transmission pulley.

6. Tighten bolt; verify key in place.

Tines turn, but wheels don’t.

1. Pony and Econo-Florse Models:

wheel mounting hardware missing.

1. Replace hardware.

2. Junior Model: wheel drive pins missing

or incorrectly located.

2. Replace wheel pins in WFIEEL DRIVE position

(see Section 3).

3. Bolt and key loose in transmission pulley.

3. Tighten bolt; verify key in place.
