BLADE BRAKE/CLUTCH
This unit is equipped with a blade brake/clutch. If
for some reason the blade brake/clutch becomes
inoperative, it is suggested that the complete unit
as shown in figure 22 be returned to the factory for
a replacement.

All repair work on the blade brake/clutch should
be performed by an authorized service dealer. The
unit should be inspected by an authorized service
dealer if any of the following conditions are no
ticed.
1. Frayed clutch control cable.
2. Leaking oil seal (oil collection on the floor dur
ing mower storage).
3. Extensive vibration of the unit.
Blade Brake/Clutch Removal
1. Disconnect the spark plug wire and ground it
against the engine block.
2. Empty fuel tank and drain oil from crankcase.
3. Remove the cable ties which secure control
cables to the handle.
4. Remove one truss machine screw on the in
side of control housing as shown in figure 23.
Loosen the truss machine screw on the out
side of the controi housing until the inside
half of control housing can be iifted off.

5. Disconnect the “Z” fitting on the blade
brake/clutch cable from the clutch control
handle. See figure 23. Slide the blade
brake/clutch cable out of the controi housing.
6. Disconnect the throttle control cable from the
engine by loosening screw on engine and
disconnecting the “Z” fitting. See figure 24.

7. Tip the mower on its side. Remove the blade
by removing two hex nuts and lock washers.
Refer to figure 18.
8. Remove the baffle from the deck by removing
three hex nuts, lock washers and carriage
bolts, then three self-tapping screws located
near the discharge opening. See figure 25. A
7/16" wrench and 5/16" wrench are required.
NOTE
When reassembling, heads of the
carriage bolts must be to the inside
of the baffle.
