1 Overview

1.1 Introduction

More and more boards from LiPPERT ADLINK TECHNOLOGY GmbH are assembled with an integrated
microcontroller (SMC = System Management Controller) that implements advanced LEMT
functionality (LiPPERT Enhanced Management Technology). These enable the user to gain access to
board specific monitoring features.

The LEMT tool can be used from a command line (currently Windows and Linux are supported) as
well as with a graphical user interface. This document describes how the LEMT tool is installed and
what kind of information can be displayed.

1.2 LEMT Functions

The onboard microcontroller communicates via the System Management Bus with the CPU / Chipset
and implements besides power sequencing the following features:

Board Identify
Part number / Serial number / BIOS and SMC version

Total operating hours counter
Records the lifetime amount of hours the unit has been operated

Uptime minutes counter
Counts the seconds since last system start

Power cycles counter

System Restart Cause
Power loss / Watchdog / External Reset.

Fail-Safe-BIOS Support
In case of a boot failure, hardware signals tell external logic to boot from a Fail-Safe-BIOS

Watchdog Timer
Set / Reset / Disable Watchdog Timer

Temperature monitoring of CPU and Board
Min. and max. temperature values of CPU and board are stored in flash

Non volatile flash memory
512B or 1kB Flash area for customer data (depending on platform)

Protected Flash area
128 Bytes for Keys, ID's, etc. can stored in a write- and clear-protectable region

LVDS Backlight control
Backlight enable / disable / brightness control

Main current and power consumption monitoring
