Replacing a fan tray
WARNING!

When replacing a fan tray while the switch is running, be aware of electrical safety hazards.
• To avoid bodily injury, do not touch the rotating fans when you replace the fan tray.
• To avoid device damage and bodily injury, H3C recommends that you have two people replace a fan
tray.
When the fan tray fails, replace the fan tray to ensure normal operation of the switch.
For an S12510-X AC/S12510-X DC switch, if only one fan tray is used, install it in the slot FAN2 to ensure
good ventilation.
For an S12516-X AC/S12516-X DC switch, make sure both fan trays are installed on the switch and can
operate correctly.
The S12500-X switches provide the following types of fan tray slots:
• Horizontal slots in the S12510-X AC/S12510-X DC switch
• Vertical slots in the S12516-X AC/S12516-X DC switch
The procedures for replacing fan trays in both types of slots are the same. This section describes how to
replace a horizontally-orientated fan tray in an S12510-X AC.
