Getting Started

This section guides you through the initial preparation of the camcorder.
None of these processes are complex. Set aside some time, relax, and
familiarize yourself with this quality instrument.
Enjoy getting to know all about your Hitachi 8mm camcorder. The more
comfortable and familiar you are with the machine and its features, the
more you can make it do for you. Let's get started!
It is crucial that you read and understand all the safety instructions before
you begin. If you haven't read the safety instructions yet, please take the
time to do so now.

Charging the Battery

The first step is to set the battery to charge. Once fully charged the battery will

give an operating time of approximately 70 minutes, but this is reduced to half to
one-third depending on how often you use zoom and stop/start functions.
Charge the battery at a temperature range of 50°F(10°C) - 86°F(30°C) to prevent
damage to the battery.

Using the AC Adapter/Charger

To Charge the Battery Attached to the AC Adapter/Charger

1. Plug the AC adapter/charger power cord into an AC outlet. Make sure
that the wide blade fits into the wide slot. If it doesn't fit try reversing it. If
you still cannot make fit the blades into the outlet either contact an
electrician to replace your obsolete outlet, or use a polarized cord or outlet
accessory.
2. Push the battery till it is flush with the AC adapter/charger sliding it in
the direction of the arrow as shown in the figure.
3. The CHARGE light on the AC adapter/charger lights during charging
and goes out when charging is finished.

About 2.5 hours

To Charge the Battery Loaded in the Camcorder

You can charge the battery while it is loaded in the camcorder after
recording is finished, etc. (Load a battery in the camcorder. Refer to
"Camcorder Battery" on page 19.)
1. Set the CAM/OFF/VIDEO switch of the camcorder to "OFF".
2. Connect the external power cord plug to the DC OUTPUT jack on the
AC adapter/charger.
3. Attach the other end of the external power cord into the installation
section at the bottom of the camcorder.
4. Plug the AC adapter/charger power cord into an AC outlet. The in-
camera battery charge light turns on (green). When charging is finished,
the light turns off.
