HP Officejet 6500 is a very good choice as a business All-in-One inkjet printer featuring attractive design, built-in duplexer, paper tray of high capacity, fast speed and good print quality of documents, saving unfortunately photos. By the way, it can be considered as a fair budget substitute for a laser printer. The 6500 can be successfully used in home and small offices.
Designed in a restrained office style, the HP Officejet 6500 is made of matte black-and-white plastic. You can be pleased with small amount of gloss, but not for long, because it is all focused on the parts, you touch rather often. In front there is a paper tray, the upper part of which is a telescopic two-section output tray. There is also a memory card slot. The 6500 supports Memory Stick, SD, xD, and compatible cards. The USB port is not available.
The control panel is conveniently located at about 45 degrees. The keys are arranged in groups. The left side of the control panel houses keys to select and set scanning functions, direct photo printing and copying. Below the screen there are navigation buttons and the button for menu settings.
The cover of the HP Officejet 6500 opens only in one position - at an angle of slightly more than 90 degrees. Hinges do not move up, and hence, magazines and books have to be scanned with the cover open. The scanner equipped with the CIS-sensor features a maximum optical resolution of 2400 dpi. A big plus is the ability to scan using the Web Interface with the network access to the device. In this case the driver is not required, that is, you can scan documents or pictures from any PC, having access to the Officejet 6500 via the network.
The HP 6500 features two modes of scanning: fully autonomous and semi-autonomous. The fully autonomous mode has quite a lot of settings: media size, saving format, resolution. It is worth noting that you can choose the scan resolution only in a stand-alone mode, but when scanning with the use of a PC and a standard TWAIN driver, it is possible to obtain images only in the standard resolution of 200 dpi. Semi-autonomous scanning mode allows you to transfer images to PC, including the right to send them to the program working with the e-mail or to the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program.
The HP Officejet 6500 is equipped with a 4-color printer that uses the standard CMYK-set of cartridges, installed directly on the printing head. The main feature of the device is a removable module of two-sided printing. When this mode is activated, after printing one side of a sheet the 6500 printer pauses for 10 seconds to dry the ink.
After switching on or after the sleeping mode the printer is ready to operate in 18 seconds and if the device is turned on and active, the preparation takes only 3 seconds. In draft mode a page is printed in 4.3 seconds, and in standard mode it is ready in 6.7 seconds. In both these modes the print quality leaves much to be desired, but the speed is great. It makes sense to use fast modes to print most of the documentation, resorting to improved ones only in case of very important documents. As for the photo printing, the speed is rather fast for such budget inkjet as the HP Officejet 6500 is.
When you copy a document, you can also select one of three quality modes and a color mode. You can also select various scaling options, set the paper size, and set the number of copies in the range from 1 to 100.
The facsimile module is standard. It allows you to work with both black-and-white and color faxes. The fax memory can store up to 100 black-and-white pages of received fax messages and up to 100 entries in the address book. You can create an address book by using the most convenient built-in web interface, and also with the help of a built-in display.
