G0456 Variable Speed Wood Lathe

A loose or damaged V-belt will not adequately
transfer power from the motor to the spindle. This
procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to
complete and requires you to remove and discard
the sandpaper disc if it is installed. If you need
help locating any parts of the machine, refer to the
parts breakdown.

To change the V-belt:

1. DISCONNECT LATHE FROM POWER!

2. Remove the table, dust port, and sandpaper

from the sanding disc.

3. Remove the left-handed cap screw (turn

clockwise) in the center of the sanding disc
and slide the sanding disc off.

4. Remove the five cap screws (see Figure 48)

that secure the disc housing to the head-
stock, and remove the disc housing.

Replacing V-Belt

5. Loosen the three lock bolts shown in Figure

49.

6. Use the handle to slide the motor toward

the spindle pulley, then replace the V-belt,
making sure that it is aligned in the correct
grooves, and tension it as described below.

7. Use the handle to slide the motor down, hold

firm downward pressure on it, and tighten the
three lock bolts.

8. Reassemble all removed components in

the opposite manner from which they were
removed.
