Loudspeaker capability for reproducing bass frequencies

down to 35Hz within -3dB of the midrange frequencies. If

a Loudspeaker can not reproduce bass frequencies down to

35Hz within -3dB of the midrange frequencies, it is consid-

ered SMALL.

1. Use the Up or Down directional Push-button to se-

lect SPEAKER CONFIGURATION followed by press-

ing the SELECT Push-button on the Remote Control.

Refer to figure 39.

2. Press the the Down directional Push-button and then

press the Right directional Push-button followed by

the Up or Down directional Push-button to select

Large or Small Loudspeaker Size for the Front Loud-

speakers connected in the system. Using the direction-

al push-buttons and the On-Screen Menu proceed to

the remaining Loudspeakers in the system and select

Large, Small or None. Refer to figure 40.

will automatically switch to small and the Sub-

woofer setting is fixed to the On setting as this is

required to playback DVD-Audio Discs properly.

3. Use the Down directional Push-button to select

CROSSOVER then press the Right directional

Push-button. Using the Up or Down directional

Push-buttons followed by pressing SELECT to make a

change from the default setting of 80Hz. This sets the

crossover frequency between the subwoofer and the

Front/Surround Loudspeakers. Refer to the Owner’s

Manuals that came with your Loudspeakers and/or

contact your McIntosh Dealer for assistance in deter-

mining the appropriate Crossover Frequency.

4. Press the RTRN (Return) Push-button to return to the

SPEAKER CONFIGURATION Menu.

CHANNEL LEVEL ADJUSTMENTS:

A properly setup Home Theater Surround Sound System

should have all Loudspeaker levels adjusted to the same

starting reference volume level in the Listening/Viewing

Area. The MVP871 includes a built-in test signal genera-

tor, which can have its output switched into each Loud-

speaker manually or automatically. The desired test signal

volume levels of each Loudspeaker can be determined, in

the Listening/Viewing Area, either by listening or with a

sound pressure meter. Level adjustments are made in small

steps (1dB) by using the MVP871 Remote Control Up or

Down directional Push-buttons. The level can be adjust-

ed over a 10dB range.

Note: Before performing the Loudspeaker Level adjust-

ments, you must first have completed the Loudspeak-

er Size adjustments.

Level Adjustments is similar for both the Manual

and Automatic Modes. The only difference is, in

the Manual Mode, the selection of the Loudspeaker

is performed by using the Up or Down direc-

tional Push-buttons before adjustments are made.
