RS-485 Connections
• RS-485 Star Configuration
A star configuration connects multiple local terminals or sync time devices to
the computer. Terminals are wired directly back to a SWIFT-485+ connected
to a COM port on the computer. Terminals can be located up to 4000 feet
from the computer.
• RS-485 Multi-Drop (Bus) Configuration
A multi-drop configuration connects multiple local terminals or sync time
devices to the computer. Terminals are wired to junction boxes running in a
single line starting from a SWIFT-485+ that connects to a COM port on the
computer. Terminals can be located up to 4000 feet from the computer.
Modem Connection
A modem connection allows a modem attached to a computer to communicate
through a telephone line to a modem internally connected to a remote
terminal. The local and remote modems allow the computer and terminals to
communicate as if they are directly connected.
