Manual Focus

Under certain conditions, such as those
listed, you may need to focus manually.

1. Make sure the scene select AE dial is

not set to AUTO.

2. Slide the power zoom lever toward T

to zoom in on your subject. To
maintain proper focus throughout the
zoom range, you must zoom in on the
subject before adjusting the focus.

3. Press MODE until FOCUS appears

beside the F1 button in the display
panel.

FOCUS appears in the

viewfinder.

4. Press and hold F1 while sliding the

power zoom lever toward T or W to
display a clear picture in the center of
the viewfinder.

For slow focusing, slide the power
zoom lever a small amount. For fast
focusing, slide the lever all the way
up or down.

The

indicators appear in the

viewfinder. The

5 or 6 indicator will

flash. When the focus cannot be
adjusted any farther, the

indicator

will flash. When the focus cannot be
adjusted any closer, the

indicator

will flash.

5. Release the power zoom button to

lock in the manual focus. The
indicators appear in the viewfinder.

6. To turn off manual focus, press F1 or

place the scene select AE dial to
AUTO. The

indicators

disappear from the viewfinder.

Conditions Requiring Manual Focus

• When recording a subject through a

window.

• When recording a subject having a close

foreground and a background that is far
away.

• When recording two subjects at different

distances that overlap in the same scene.

• When the subject is not in the center of

the viewfinder.

• When recording in low-light situations.

• When recording a scene with fast

motions, like a tennis swing.
