Suggested inspection openings

• Inspection openings are suggested for the vent intake and exhaust

pipes if they are installed in an enclosure. These openings should
be near the entrance and exit of the vent into the enclosure.

• These openings should be 450mm x 450mm (18" x 18").

When the vent pipe passes through an enclosed space:

• Terminate at least 1.8m (6') from the combustion

air intake of any appliance, and 0.9m (3') from
any other building opening, gas utility meter,
service regulator etc.

• Enclose exterior vent systems below the roof

line to limit condensation and protect against
mechanical failure.

• When the vent penetrates a floor or ceiling and

is not running in a fire rated shaft, a firestop and
support is required.

• Terminate the vent system at least 0.6m (2')

above, but not more than 1.8m (6') above the
roof line.

• Terminate the vent system at least 0.6m (2')

above any portion of a building located within
3m (10') horizontally.

• Provide vertical support every 2.1m (7').

• Slope the horizontal vent 1/4" for every 300mm

(12") towards the drain tee.

• Install a condensate drain directly on the water

heater flue if the total vertical run exceeds 0.9m
(3') .

• When 2 units are installed in a Quick Connect

Multi System, maintain a minimum distance of
1.5m (5') between the vertical terminations.
