5 Troubleshooting

In the event that the Pearl products are not displaying a thermal video image on the display, the

following section describes a procedure for identifying a problem. Follow this procedure to
regain basic imaging functions. Once the image is displaying properly, continue to modify the
operating settings to optimize the operation for your application.

1. Check Electrical Connections

The first step is to verify the connections to the camera are made properly. 12 Volts DC is
the typical power used, but any voltage between 9 and 20 Volts can be provided to the
input power on the Pearl.

2. Connect to the Host Application to Verify Settings

If the connections are made properly to the Pearl, the host computer application will be

able to communicate with the camera to verify and modify the settings. Use PCS through
RS232 to connect to the camera and read its information and default settings.

3. Check Video Scaling

Set the video option to “Fully Automatic Level and Gain Control” function to ensure the
video is scaled properly to the data from the detector. Remove the check from the AGC
Region of Interest option so the full image is used for the AGC.

4. Check Detector Operating Parameters

Log in to the calibration tab of PCS to check the gain and integration time are set to a

gain of “2.0x” and an integration setting of 144 clock periods. Initiate the calibration
procedure by clicking the “Correction” Button.

5. Verify the Video Display Operation

Connect a different video source to the video display to verify the video display is
working properly. Be sure to use the same cable connected to the Pearl OEM Camera if
possible.

6. Contact Technical Support

If the above steps do not produce a thermal image, please notify the Pearl Technical
support team for assistance. In most cases, the camera can be returned to basic

operation by following the troubleshooting steps outlined in this manual. Technical
Support from the factory can help to establish the proper setting if this is the case.

Note: Technical support can be reached by phone at +1 800 631 0176 or email at

.

In cases where there exists a hardware problem, Technical Support will be required to

troubleshoot and resolve the issue or supply an RMA number for the return of the
camera.
