Follow these steps when using the ShoulderDolly

®

:

1) Pull the harness on like a shirt — make sure the buckle is in front of you

and the word “FRONT” is facing up.

2) Place lifting strap under the bulk of the weight of the object you wish to

move.

3) Bend your knees — the deeper you bend, the higher the item will be

lifted.

4) Weave the lifting strap through the buckle as shown on page 4 or go to

our website at www.shoulderdolly.com.

5) Adjust the length of the strap. Each person should have equal amounts of

strap between the object and the buckle.

6) With straight arms, push against object you are moving ( THIS IS VERY

IMPORTANT!).

7) Lift slowly with your legs — balancing the object with your arms.

8) Communicate at all times with your lifting partner.

Helpful tips:

Remember — This is a technique more than brute strength! Practice with

lighter objects, first, before lifting anything really heavy.

Keep the object level — if there is a height difference between the lifters,

the taller lifter will have more webbing length between the object and the

buckle than the shorter person (see photos 7 - 15).

Distribute the strap under the heaviest weight point (it may not be the

middle).

Bend your knees (or go into a squat) so that you can adjust the strap.

If you are going up stairs, the object needs to be lifted higher — about a

foot off the ground — this will enable you to walk and have clearance over

the stairs. You may have to go into a deeper squat and use your leg muscles

to lift up.

Stairs: The person who is on the bottom of the stairs needs to keep their

arms straight or you’ll end up not being able to see (object will be in your

face).

Once the object is balanced on the lifting strap, use your hands/arms to

balance the object.

Straighten your arms and push against the object as you lift with your legs

— and keep your hands on the object at all times!

COMMUNICATE with your partner at all times so that you balance the

load properly and both people feel comfortable.

Your ShoulderDolly

®

set includes:

(see photo 1, page 4)

• 2 “one-size-fits-all” harnesses with metal buckle

• 1 (one) lifting strap – 12’ x 5’ wide

USE THE SHOULDERDOLLY

®

CORRECTLY:

Putting on the harness:

Each harness comes fully assembled. The harness can only be worn correctly

one way (see photos page 4).

Lift the harness over your head and put it on like a shirt (photo 2). The point

where the webbing crosses (“X”) should rest between your shoulder blades

(photo 3) and the buckle will be near your waist.

The buckles are labeled with the word “front”. Once the harness is on, the

word “front” should be away from your body and facing up (photos 4 & 5).

Threading the webbing (lifting strap) through the buckles:

Each lifter grasps an end of the 12’ lifting strap.

Thread the end of the lifting strap up through the slot closest to your body

on the buckle (photo 5). Lift the slide bar on the buckle up and thread the

webbing back through the opening (photo 6).

Perform the same task for the other harness.

Adjusting the webbing (lifting strap):

The ShoulderDolly

®

is made to adjust to objects of all sizes. This is accom-

plished by adjusting the webbing (lifting strap). To increase or decrease the

length of the webbing under the object, pull/push more webbing through

one or both buckles. To loosen the strap, lift one or both buckles so that

they are level and pull/push the necessary amount of webbing through.

Placing the webbing (lifting strap) under the object:

1) Tip the object slightly and place the webbing (lifting strap)underneath. OR:

2) Slide the webbing under the object from either end.

LIFTING CORRECTLY:

Step 1: Make sure the webbing is placed under the object where it will be

best balanced. Remember to place it where the bulk of the weight resides

(eg: towards the back of a couch, or the back of the refrigerator).

Step 2: Both individuals squat and adjust the length of the webbing

until it is taught. Make sure that the buckles on each side of the object are

approximately the same distance away from the ground.

Step 3: Place your hands on the corners of the object for balance. Both

lifters push back from the object with straight arms. Both lifters’ backs are

straight and upright.

Step 4: The object is lifted by pushing with the arms and straightening the

legs simultaneously.
