Extending the Modify Mode Timeout Period

Whenever you change from View mode to Modify mode, the progress bar that shows the Modify
mode timeout period is displayed on the XP Remote Web Console main panel (see

Figure 46

). The

progress bar shows the remaining time in which the Modify mode is available. The remaining time
for the Modify mode is also numerically displayed on the progress bar. The default of the Modify
mode timeout period is 30 minutes.

If a user is in Modify mode but does not access the SVP, the progress bar decreases. If the time passes
without accessing the SVP and reaches the specified Modify mode timeout period, Modify mode is
released.

The Reset button is displayed on the right of the progress bar. Click Reset button to extend the Modify
mode time period. For example, if the Modify mode timeout period is set as 30 minutes (default), the
Modify mode time period is extended for an additional 30 minutes when you click Reset.

NOTE:

If Modify mode is released, the settings that you have made but have not yet applied to the disk
subsystem will be canceled on some panels. Make sure that you have enough remaining time period
for the Modify mode by clicking the Reset button while you are using the following panels:

V-VOL panel

All panels used for XP Continuous Access, XP Continuous Access Journal, and XP Business Copy
operations

All panels used for TrueCopy z/OS, Universal Replicator z/OS, and ShadowImage z/OS oper-
ations

Volume Security panel

Volume Retention z/OS panel

All panels used for XP External Storage operations

XP Flex Copy panel

You can change the Modify mode timeout period or disable the timeout parameter altogether by using
the RMI time-out period for Modify parameter in the Set Env. panel. You have to log on as a storage
administrator with Enable authority to change the setting of RMI time-out period for Modify. For

bar is not displayed in the XP Remote Web Console main panel.
