Port States

The port operational state refers to actual port state and not the administrative
state you may have assigned. Refer to

”External Port Operational States” on

page 3-76

and

”Internal Port Operational States” on page 3-77

for port operational

state information. The port administrative state refers to the user-requested state.
Port administrative states have two forms: the configured administrative state and
the current administrative state. Refer to

”Port Administrative States” on page 3-78

for more information.

External Port Operational States

To view the operational state on each external port in the faceplate display, select
an external port, open the View menu, and then select View Port States.

Table 3-18

lists the possible operational states and their meanings.

Table 3-18. External Port Operational States

State

Description

Online—port is active and ready to send data.

None

Inactive—port operational state is offline, but administrative state is
online.

Offline—port is active, can receive signal, but cannot accept a device
login.

Diagnostics—port is in diagnostics mode in preparation for testing

Downed—the port is disabled, power is removed from the lasers, and
can’t be logged in.
