OpenView Storage Provisioner User Guide

storage system
Storage array using HSG80 or HSV110 controllers.
storage utility
A set of storage systems. The storage utility is the basis for granting a quota to customers. All
storage systems assigned to a storage utility should be visible (zoned) to connected hosts.
Storage systems are not visible to storage consumers.
supported paths
In HSG80 storage utilities, the maximum number of paths to hosts are recommendations made
by the SAN Design Reference Guide, but can be overridden by the storage administrator.

The guide can be located at:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/san/documentation.html

Paths are determined by the operating systems of the hosts that are connected to the utility, as
well other factors taken into consideration such as I/O load.
unmanaged storage system
A storage system that is not configured in a storage utility for management by Storage
Provisioner.
unmanaged volume
A volume that is on a managed storage system, but it was not created using Storage Provisioner.
You can migrate the volume into Storage Provisioner for management by using Modify.
unmigrate
The action to remove a managed volume from Storage Provisioner management. It does not
delete the volume or affect its visibility to hosts, but does delete the customer, service level, and
all information about that volume needed for management by Storage Provisioner. It is moved
to Unmanaged Volumes.

A collection of storage blocks on a storage system that is visible to hosts through the SAN. It
has a defined protection level, and it contains data used by host applications. It is used
interchangeable with LUN, Unit, and Virtual Disk.
