How to ...

The software actually provides two ways to get imagery type data from the internet. You can either use the download
wizard to download aerial imagery only that can be used temporarily, saved into your management tree, or saved as a
background. Or the other option is to enable aerial/road map data to dynamically download as a special background
for a map you are viewing. You are not restricted to one or the other either, both can be used.

If you want to download a specific aerial image and have more control over the quality and manage it, follow these
steps to download imagery from the internet:

1.

From the File Menu, select Import and then Download Imagery From Internet..

2.

The Internet Imagery Download Options dialog will now appear. There are 3 possible options available for
selecting a location to download imagery for:

Farm(s) or Field(s) - Uses existing Farms and Fields in your system as a reference to download
imagery. You must select a specific Grower to give you a preview of what images are available for
your selected Grower.

Latitude and Longitude - Allows the entry of a specific location to download imagery for. Imagery
will be available for download within 25 square miles of the entered location.

Use Selected Location - Allows the entry of a City and State or Country and returns a spatial point
at that location. Imagery will be available for download within 25 square miles of the location.

Click OK once you have made your selection.

3.

The Select an Image Source dialog will now appear. This dialog provides a preview of available image
sources that are available for the location you picked in the step above. The sample images shown are
provided at the maximum resolution available at the location you picked. You can select each source to see
a preview of it. Once you decide which image source you want to use to download imagery from, make sure
to have that source selected and then click OK.

NOTE: No warranty or guarantee of imagery quality or availability is made when using this feature.
Downloaded imagery is made available for the users own private use only and is not to be used for resale
or commercial purposes.

4.

The Image Clipping Options dialog will now appear. Select one of the clipping options for the image you are
importing and then click the Next> button.

5.

Depending on the download option you selected in step 2, you will either get a Select Data Filters dialog to
filter the data that imagery will be downloaded for or you will get the Manually Clip Image dialog which
allows you to manually draw the area(s) that you want to import imagery from. In either process click NEXT>
once you have made your selection(s).

6.

Now the Image Import Settings dialog will appear and you must select a management type for the image,
either Management Tree, Background, or Temporary reference for the Boundary Editor. Once you have
made you selections click the FINISH button.

1.

If you select the Background option then you can also select an option to automatically set the
background as a linked background for either a Farm or Field.

2.

If the Management Tree selection was made then enter in the required management selections
and then click Accept.

3.

If the Temporary Reference option was selected then the Boundary Editor will automatically open
and have the image displayed as a background layer while the editor is open.

7.

The image(s) can now be selected from the management tree and added as a map layer or selected for
display as a background, or used temporarily in the Boundary Editor.

If you want to just see aerial/road map data as a background for your data without any additional settings or saving it to
you system, follow these steps to enable automatic downloading and display of aerial/road map data in your map(s);

1.

Select the data in your management tree that you wish to map and see aerial/road map background data
with.

2.

Create a new map of the data or add it to an existing map.

3.

By default, a special background layer will be added, if you have an internet connection, that is a
combination of an aerial image and a road map. From the Map toolbar or menu you can select to not show
this special background, show only the aerial map, show only the road map, or show the combination. The
default type that is used when creating maps can also be set in General Options on the Mapping 1 tab.

NOTE: These special backgrounds that are automatically downloaded for you are very easy and
convenient to use, but they do provide less control over the quality of the images compared to the
first method above. It is likely that day to day that you may see different imagery based on what is
the most accurate/available imagery for your map you are viewing.
