Go to the File menu and select Export. The Select an Export Method... dialog will now appear.

Select the Export to a Generic File Format button and then click the Start...button.

Now select the Generic format button and then the Shape format from the list. Depending on what data you
would like to export and what data is contained in the dataset/layer that is being exported select from the
available export options that are provided.

5.

If you would like to customize the formatting of the shape export click on the Export Settings button. You can
save and load export templates on the Export Settings dialog.

6.

Once you are ready to start the export, click the Export... button.

7.

Now select a location and name to save the shape files. Three files are created when saving a Shape file.

8.

Click Save and your files will be exported.

How to import an ASCII text file.

Follow these steps to import an ASCII text file into the system:

1.

Now go to the FILE menu or the main toolbar and select READ FILE(S)...

A dialog will now appear with three options on it for reading files into the software. To import files from a
generic source, select the third option IMPORT A FILE FROM A GENERIC SOURCE. The option is selected
if there is a green check mark over the top right corner of the file icon. Once the option is selected, click the
START IMPORTING GENERIC FILES... button.

A dialog will now appear that provides a list of the file formats or groups of formats that can be imported.
Select the button labeled as TEXT FILES. Then click the SELECT FILE(S) TO IMPORT... button.

4.

Now using the Open dialog, select the location and name of the text file to be imported and click Open.

5.

Make the following selections on the Select Text Format window:

Record Format

Number of Header Lines

Ignore Consecutive Delimiters.

Click OK when done.

7.

Make the following selections:

Data Type

Management Type

Then click Next>when done.

Select attributes to be mapped, if desired. You can also select Save Template to save the columns settings
as a custom template for future use. Click Next> when done.

Select the management information for the imported data then click Next>.

Finish.

How to import non-spatial data (i.e. Soil Lab Results).

Follow these steps to import a non-spatial ASCII text file into the system, soil sampling lab results for example:

1.

Now go to the FILE menu or the main toolbar and select READ FILE(S)...

A dialog will now appear with three options on it for reading files into the software. To import files from a generic
source, select the third option IMPORT A FILE FROM A GENERIC SOURCE. The option is selected if there is a
green check mark over the top right corner of the file icon. Once the option is selected, click the START
IMPORTING GENERIC FILES... button.

3.

A dialog will now appear that provides a list of the file formats or groups of formats that can be imported. Select
the button labeled as NON-SPATIAL FILES (LAB RESULTS). Then click the SELECT FILE(S) TO IMPORT...
button.

4.

Now using the Open File dialog, select the location and name of the text file to be imported and click Open.

5.

Make the following selections on the Select Text Format window:

Record Format

Number of Header Lines

Select Column Header Line

Ignore Consecutive Delimiters option if needed.

4.

Click OK when done.
