Modems

An external modem doesn’t work.

m The modem may be turned off or improperly connected. Make sure it is

turned on and that all connections are correct.

Open the PowerBook Setup control panel and make sure that External is
selected.

AppleTalk Switch module of the Control Strip.

m Floppy disk drive activity can interfere with data transmission of external

modems. Try using the modem again when the floppy disk drive is not in
use. (If you intend to use communications programs frequently, Apple
recommends using an internal modem; the internal modem port of the
PowerBook 150 has been optimized for communciations programs.)

m If you are transmitting data at a rate of 9600 baud or faster, try resetting

your modem to transmit at a slower speed.

An internal modem doesn’t work.

m The modem connection may not be activated. Open the PowerBook Setup

control panel and make sure that Internal is selected.

See the modem manual for more information about using your modem.
