D. Automatic Valve Position Calibration

NOTE: All valves must have the position calibrated after installation.

The automatic calibration routine has been incorporated to simplify the calibration of the open and closed
positions of an E3F or E5F actuated valve. These routines must be utilized so the position of the valve will
be displayed accurately.

Automatic Valve Position Calibration for UBEC 1S

Follow the steps below based on the type of Unibody valve being used.

UNIBODY model valves other than the EB_J or EB_S butterfly valves.

1. Turn on power to the valve and controller(s).

2. Use the OPEN and CLOSE buttons to place the valve approximately ¼ open.

3. Press and hold the CLOSE and PRESET (or OPEN and PRESET) buttons for 5 seconds, or until the

valve starts to move. The valve will travel to the closed position, calibrate the closed position, then

move back to the open position, calibrate the open position, and then return back to the closed position

and stop. The valve position is now calibrated.

UNIBODY model EB_J or EB_S butterfly valves. These valves operate in reverse of all the others, so the
valve motor polarity must be reversed.

1. Refer to Figure 6 on page 7 and reverse the leads for positions 6 & 7 of the actuators 12-pin connector.

Move the red lead to position 6, and the black lead to position 7.

2. Turn on power to the valve and controller(s).

3. Use the OPEN and CLOSE buttons place the valve approximately ¼ open.

Automatic Valve Position Calibration for UBEC 1C

One Valve – If only one valve will be controlled by one or more UBEC 1C controllers, move onto step 1 for
the type of valve being used.

More Than One Valve – If more than one valve will be on the same CAN communication line disconnect all
but one of the valves and its controller(s) from the CAN line. Calibrate the valve remaining connected as
described on the following page for the model of valve being used. Then refer to Section IV Programming
Mode, and use 213 to program an ID number of 01 into the valves controller(s). If more than one controller
will be used for a valve, each should be programmed with an ID of 01. Then use code 411 to transfer the ID
number from one of the controllers to the valve. Disconnect the CAN connectors for this valve and its
controller(s), and connect the CAN connectors for the next valve and its controller(s). Only one valve and its
controller(s) should be connected to the CAN line at a time. Repeat the calibration process for this model of
valve and its controller(s), but program their ID number to be 02. Repeat this process for 03, 04, and so on
