Using Featherboards for Non Thru-Sawing

FG atherboards are not em ployed during non thru-saw ing

operations w hen using the m iter gauge

U se featherboards for all other non thru-saw ing opera­

tions (w hen saw biade guard m ust be rem oved) Feather­

boards are used to keep the w ork in contact w ith the

fence and table as shown and to stop kickbacks.

Add a 7-1/2" high flat facing board to the fence, the full

length of the fence

yount featherboards to facing board and table as show n,

so that leading edges of featherboards w ill support w ork­

piece until cut is com plete, and the w orkpiece has been

pushed

1 Install featherboards so they exert pressure on the

w orkpiece: be positive they are secure,

WARNING: For your own safety, replace the saw-

blade guard as soon as the notr thru-sawing opera­

tion is complete.

Resawing

R esaw ing is a rip cut m ade in a piece of w ood through its

thickness The piece is typically positioned on its edge If

the piece is narrow er than 2-1/2" It can be resaw n in one

pass w ith the blade guard in place Extra supports or fix­

tures w ill be required w hen the edge resting on the table

is too narrow for the piece to be stable and w hen the

fence

interferes

w ith

the

blade

guard

(See

m ethod

described below )

WARNING: Do not attempt to resaw bowed or

warped material. It can’t be properly supported. It

could kickback or bind.

N O TE; To resaw a piece of

Wood

w ider than 2-1/2", or a

piece needing extra support, it w iil be necessary to

rem ove the blade guard and use the auxiliary fence (See

"W orkfeed D evices",)

C lam p the auxiliary fence to the table so that the w ork­

piece will slide easily without binding betw een the tw o

fences and it w ill not tilt or m ove sidew ays

D o not clam p directly to the bottom edge of the table

because the “sw ivel” of the clam p w ill not grip properly

Place a sm all block of w ood betw een the bottom edge of

the table and the “C " clam p

WARNING: For your own safety

1. Do not "Backup" (reverse feeding) while resaw­

ing because this could cause a kickback.

2. Make first pass to a depth slightly more than

one half the width of the board.

3. Keeping the same face of board against the

fence rotate it end over end and make the sec­

ond pass.

WARNING: For your own safety, install blade

guard immediately upon completion of the resaw­
ing operation.
