Synchronizing the Camcorder’s Time Code

You can synchronize this camcorder’s time code to an external time code generator. Also you can
include in the recording the user bit signal received from the TIME CODE terminal (

42). The

camcorder offers the following synchronization options.

Genlock

When a reference sync signal (analog blackburst or tri-level signal) is input through the GENLOCK terminal,
the V and H phases of the camcorder’s time code will be automatically synchronized to it.

Time Code IN

Set the TIME CODE switch to IN to start the Time Code IN mode.
An external SMPTE-standard LTC timing signal received from the TIME CODE terminal will be recorded as
the time code on the tape. The user bit of the external timing signal can also be recorded on tape.

Time Code OUT

Set the TIME CODE switch to OUT to start the Time Code OUT mode.
The camcorder’s internal time code is sent out from the TIME CODE terminal as a standard LTC timing signal.
When you set [SDI OUTPUT] to [ON] the time code data will also be output through the HD/SD SDI terminal.

* As a reference video signal input you can use either an HD Y signal or a PAL composite video signal.

While a time code signal is being received, the [COUNT-UP] setting of the camcorder will be
ignored and the external time code’s drop-frame bit will be used instead.

Once the Genlock or Time Code IN synchronization stabilizes (after approx. 10 seconds), the
external time code lock will be retained even if you disconnect the cable from the TIME CODE
terminal. However, if you perform one of the following while the cable is disconnected, the time
code will lag slightly; the correct time code will be restored once you reconnect the cable.
- Turn the camcorder off/on.
- Change the

dial to a mode other than

.

- Change the position of the

/

(card/tape) switch.

- Change the [SIGNAL STD] or [FRAME RATE] setting.
