Impinger

Impingers are ideal for applications where the airborne contaminant must be

captured by drawing them into a solution. The air is drawn into the impinger

and forced through a nozzle that is immersed in a liquid. This liquid is

subsequently analysed for any dissolved matter.

5.2.1 Arnold Bubbler / Impinger Equivalent

(Part No. P100011)

The Arnold bubbler is used for sampling

gas, normally in static situations. The

solution used in the bubbler is

dependent upon the gas to be sampled.

The bubbler is filled with sorbent, for

example de-ionised water, and the

sample air is drawn through it.

Note that it is necessary to fit an

activated-carbon filter between the

bubbler and the pump to prevent

moisture and/or corrosive vapour

entering the pump.

5.2.2 Operation of the Bubbler

1.

Fill the Arnold bubbler with a sorbent.

2.

Connect the bubbler to the pump via the charcoal filter.

3.

Connect the bubbler to the flowmeter.

4.

Adjust the flow rate to the required amount:
Below 200 ml/min use a dry flow flowmeter.
Above 200 ml/min use a flowmeter.
