MAC Mode

Traffic Generator’s MAC mode allows you to transmit
traffic on the local segment. You can transmit unicast or
broadcast packets.

To run Traffic Generator in the MAC mode, do the
following:

1. Connect the Network Assistant to your network.

2. Press

( Connectivity Tests) from the top-level

display. For xDSL, press

(xDSL Test) from the

top-level display then press the Traffic Generator
tab.

3. Press

(Traffic Generator).

4. Press

or

to configure Frames/second.

5. Press

or

to configure Frame Length as 60,

64, 128, 256, 512, 768, 1024, 1280, 1518, or 1520
bytes.

6. Select MAC as the frame type.

7. Select Broadcast if you want Traffic Generator to

transmit broadcast traffic. Otherwise the transmitted
traffic is unicast to 00c017310000 (Fluke - 310000),
which is an unused MAC address.

8. Press

(Start Traffic) to start generating traffic.

Press

(Stop Traffic) to stop the Traffic

Generator.

IP Mode

Traffic Generator’s IP mode allows you to transmit traffic
to a specific device or network. The target device can be
on the other side of a router.

To run Traffic Generator in the IP mode, do the following:

1. Connect the Network Assistant to your network.

2. Press

(Connectivity Tests) from the top-level

display.

3. Press

(Internetwork Throughput Option)

4. Press the (Traffic Gen) tab. For xDSL, press

(xDSL Test) from the top-level display then press the
Traffic Generator tab. The Traffic Generator screen
displays.

5. Press

or

to configure Frames/second.

6. Press

or

to configure Frame Length as 60,

64, 128, 256, 512, 768, 1024, 1280, 1518, or 1520
bytes.
