Installing Disk Drives into the Hot-Swap Bays

This procedure describes how to install a disk drive into a hot-swap bay while the
CPU Drawer is powered on.

Attention: Do not open the drive; no user adjustments or serviceable parts are
inside.

Note:

SCSI disk drives and SSA disk drives are not interchangeable.

Banks C and D support hot-swappable disk drives only.

This procedure is similar to any hot-swappable disk drive that is sup-
ported by this drawer.

SCSI disk drive carriers and SSA disk drive carriers are not interchange-
able.

For additional information regarding the operation of the hot-swap disk
drives see the installation and users guide that came with the drives.

Remember that each 1.6 inch disk drive takes two bays.

To run SSA drives in banks C and D, a SCSI disk drive must be installed
on a media tray in bank B2, to serve as a boot drive.

Before installing SSA disk drives in banks C and D, order and install a
SSA disk drive backplane at the rear of banks C and D. You must also
order and have install a SSA adapter. To order, contact your authorized
reseller or marketing representative.

After the backplanes are completely installed, you do not have to turn off
the server to install additional hot-swappable disk drives.
