Port zoning (hard zoning)
A hard‐zoned SAN maps initiator to target using a physical port address. This port‐
to‐port zoning establishes a fixed, physical route through the SAN. So, since each 
SAN zone can contain only one initiator and one target, you must provide two zones 
for each initiating client. The figure below shows a hard‐zoned SAN before VTL 
failover:
As the above figure shows:

one zone defines the path to the primary VTL server node
■
the other zone defines the path to the standby server.
