When you play back tapes recorded by your VCR, you can check the recording date/
time.
Also, when you play back tapes recorded by a Digital8 system video camera recorder
with the data code function, you can check the recording date/time and various settings
when you have recorded.

Using the data code function

Your VCR automatically stores the date/time and the recording data used during the
recording in the memory of the tape.

Press DATA CODE on your VCR.
The display changes as follows:
date/time t various settings (SteadyShot, exposure AUTO/MANUAL, white balance,
gain, shutter speed, aperture value) t no indicator

To not display various settings
Set DATA CODE to DATE in the menu settings (p. 50).
The display changes as follows:
date/time t no indicator

Note on the data code function
The data code function works only for tapes recorded in the Digital8 system.

Recording data
Recording data is the information of your VCR or camcorder when you have recorded.

When you use the data code function, bars (--- -- ---- and --:--:--) appear if
– A blank section of the tape is being played back.
– The tape is unreadable due to tape damage or noise.
– The tape was recorded by a camcorder or your VCR without the date and time

settings.

Data code
When you connect your VCR to the TV, the data code appears on the TV screen.
