• The RAID card is extremely sensitive to ESD. Ensure that you read and understand “Handling

static-sensitive devices” on page 82 first and carefully perform the operation.

• Depending on the specific type, your RAID card might look different from the illustrations in this topic.

• Use any documentation that comes with the RAID card and follow those instructions in addition to

the instructions in this topic.

To remove the RAID card, do the following:

1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all

power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.

2. If the server is installed in a rack cabinet, remove the server from the rack cabinet and place it on a flat,

clean, and static-protective surface. See the Rack Installation Instructions that comes with the server.

3. Remove the server cover. See “Removing the server cover” on page 83.

4. Remove the cooling shroud. See “Removing and reinstalling the cooling shroud” on page 91.

5. Remove the riser card assembly 1 and lay it upside down on a flat, clean, and static-protective surface.

See “Replacing the riser card assembly 1” on page 159.

6. If there is an expander card installed on the riser card assembly 1, you might need to remove the

expander card first for easier operation. See “Installing or removing the expander card” on page 110.

7. There are two PCI Express card slots on the riser card assembly 1 and the RAID card is installed in the

longer slot. Grasp the RAID card by its edges and carefully pull it out of the PCI Express card slot.

Note: The RAID card might fit tightly into the PCI Express card slot. If necessary, alternate moving each
side of the RAID card a small and equal amount until it is completely removed from the slot.

8. Do one of the following:

• If you will not use a RAID card, ensure that the expander card (if any) also has been removed. Then,

install a PCI Express card slot bracket for each slot on the riser card assembly 1.

• If you want to install a new RAID card, see “Installing the RAID card” on page 101. Then, install the

expander card if needed. See “Installing the expander card” on page 111.

9. Connect cables depending on your specific server configuration. See “Mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal

cable connections” on page 42.

10. Reinstall the riser card assembly 1. See “Replacing the riser card assembly 1” on page 159.
